Saggin Black males IS NOT black men's issue! By Rico Rivers

Over the past year, I've seen these two particular pictures of saggin black men all over social media. One or both of these pictures have been on mainly the IG and FB pages of black men with the usual title, "Black Men, Stop This Shit!" Of course, several older black men would respond with the most condemning comments and older black women over the age of 30 would come right behind them with their, "Yes, that's right. We don't want to see their asses out in public!" affirming comments. Then, I would get on one of these SIMPin for coochie coupons posts and say....."This is not a black men's issue." “It's a black female issue." And of course, I find myself in a condescending back and forth dialogue with forty and 50 year old black women who vehemently disagree with my assertion.

Well, needless to say, I take these out of touch, out of the game, over the hill grandmas to school. I quickly inform them that more than likely these young men come from single mother headed homes in the hood or even the suburbs. Next, these are the same type of young men who make up the 30 percent of the baby daddies to the over 70% of black children who are born to unwed black females.

I share with these ladies in denial my story of how I used to tell every other young man that I saw on the street, in the mall, in the grocery store, etc..."Hey, young brotha. Pull your pants up." I would even share with these young guys the prison origin of saggin. I even shared with these young brothas the connection that saggin has to slavery when a male slave was sexually assaulted by plantation owners and many of their overseers.

Of course, some of the young men would listen to my plea out of respect and being polite. However, I soon started paying attention to something very important. The motivation or the encouragement behind their saggin behavior. Yeah...images in rap music play a big part in this but, the main motivation is young black females. When I started paying attention, I noticed that every other saggin young man had pretty, young and FINE ass lil black chick on their arm. This is when I stopped telling young men to stop saggin. I realized that I could not compete against p*ssy. I realized that if young black males saggin, gang banging and even selling drugs in our community were to ever come to a halt, the young black female would have to make this demand. She would have to wage a nationwide protest against these negative behaviors. In the mean time, I need all old black men and old, over the hill black females to stop saying that this needs to be checked by black men. 

What you all need to do is check these young black females because they LOVE these pant saggin, murder rappin, gang banging, and drug dealing types of black males.

Dear, GSU President Search Committee.

I sure hope that this time an actual search for Grambling’s next President will be conducted unlike seven years ago. The next President does not have to be a Grambling graduate. They already tried that. However, if should happen to be a Grambling graduate, make sure they understand and actually promote HBCU/Black culture and Black consciousness at Grambling State university on a daily basis.  For the next President, would it be possible to select a person with a Ph.D, who has years of experience in working at a university especially a HBCU as a Professor, a VP for Student Affairs, VP for Academic Academic Enhancement, VP and Provost, a Dean of students or a President of a university, especially a HBCU? Would it possible that the next President of Grambling to have some knowledge of recruitment of Black students? Not only in certain parts of Louisiana, but all over the country?
