Pregnant Teens need ABORTIONS not Baby Showers!! By Rico Rivers

In my opinion, pregnant teenage girls should NOT be given a baby shower for her irresponsible behavior. Throwing a baby shower for these girls only encourages this irresponsible behavior. This also encourages single motherhood, which most often times leads to another child being born into poverty and in a dangerous a dangerous neighborhood. If you take a look at it, you will notice that more than likely houses where these baby showers are being thrown for these un-wed, uneducated, financially strapped teen mothers to be are absent of fathers or men in general. Yes. I said it. The women in our community promote teen pregnancy. They promote fatherlessness. They couldn’t care less about the mental and emotional development of a black baby because they want to have a party and by any means necessary.

I think today’s society has made it very comfortable for young girls to just get pregnant without any fear of being shamed or without even having to have a thought about how the hell she is even going to be able to financially support an infant. What happened to the shame in our community? What happened to having moral and societal expectations for our young people? When we were called “colored” folks in this country, marriages were high. Black unity was high. Out of wedlock births were low, very low. Somehow, when we became African Americans in this country, our core values, our core moral code, and our high expectations for each other seem to have been left behind along with legalized segregation or JIM CROW. I can see if the year was 1820 when birth control was not even a reality. It’s 2020! It makes no sense in 2020, for a teen age girl to even get pregnant when birth control is so PLENTIFUL, readily available and practically FREE! Females today have over 12 choices of birth control to choose from, which also includes demanding that the young man she’s about to have sex with wears a condom. So what gives?

I think that if we (the more conservative minded) in this society are really serious about bringing an end to not only the practice of throwing baby showers for pregnant teens, but also out of wedlock births in general, we will have to address the state and federal politicians. We will have to use our political numbers to demand that the state we live in bring an end to WIC, TANF, Section 8 housing vouchers and child support FOR ALL FEMALES who do not get pregnant in a MARRIAGE! These programs should only be available for married couples, senior citizens 65 years and older, veterans who came home with a mental illness diagnosis and parents of children who were born with mental and physical handicaps/deformities. In other words, stop incentivizing out of wedlock births!!!

I know if you are reading this opinion, you are asking, “Hey, Rico. What about the teenage boys who are getting these teen age girls pregnant?” My response is teen age boys don’t get pregnant. It is the female’s responsibility to protect her own body. It is not the responsibility of the boys to protect her body. I know ideally it would be nice to have this expectation, but it’s not the reality. I have a question. If unborn children could actually pick their parents, do you think they would actually choose to be born to emotionally, intellectually, and financially unprepared, unwed, single teenage boys and girls? I’ll give you a minute to think on that. However, while you are thinking about an answer, I will end this opinion by saying throwing baby showers for pregnant teens only fan the flames of irresponsibility. Hell. If you can’t afford it. Abort it!
